Sex and sexuality are often overlooked in graduate school training programs. This workshop is an introduction and overview of Human Sexuality and Sex Therapy. The workshop will review human sexual response, comprehensive evaluation, sexual function and dysfunction, and treatment of sexual dysfunction.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe two models of human sexual response
- Discuss assessment of sexual dysfunction
- List 2 treatment options for treating sexual dysfunction

Presenter: Dr. Rachel Needle
Dr. Rachel Needle received her M.S. received her Psy.D. in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University. She received her B.A. in psychology from Barnard College, Columbia University. Dr. Needle is a Licensed Psychologist and Certified Sex Therapist in private practice and the founder and executive director of the Whole Health Psychological Center, a comprehensive psychological practice with therapists with a broad range of specialty areas.
Dr. Needle is an Adjunct Professor of Psychology in the Department of Behavioral Sciences, in the Masters in Forensic Psychology, and in the Doctorate in Criminal Justice programs at Nova Southeastern University. She is the founder and CEO of the Advanced Mental Health Training Institute and Co-Director of Modern Sex Therapy Institutes which provides continuing education to Mental Health and Medical professionals and Sex Therapists around the world. MSTI provides certifications in Sex Therapy, Couples & Sex Therapy, LGBTQIA Affirmative Therapy, Alternative Relationships, Medical Sexology, Transgender Affirmative Mental Health Care, Somatic Sex Therapy, Sexual Trauma, Neurodiversity Sexuality Professional, Problematic Sexual Behavior, Sex Counseling, and Sex Educator, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology.
Dr. Needle is the founder of Palm Beach University, a school offering graduate degrees in mental health.
Dr. Needle is often interviewed by and quoted in national media outlets.
She has been featured in a number of popular magazines such as Details, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Details, and Shape, and papers including the Washington Post and the Palm Beach Post. She has written several articles for Glamour Magazine’s online Blog: Smitten.
Dr. Needle’s clinical and research interests include alcohol and substance use disorder including the impact of substance abuse on relationships and the family, sexual function and dysfunction, relationship concerns, sexual compulsivity, battered women, and trauma. Dr. Needle has presented her research and clinical work at national and international conferences.
Dr. Needle has specialized training in the area of substance use disorder. She is a professional consultant to facilities specializing in treatment of substance use disorders and assists them in expanding and enhancing clinical programming. Dr. Needle also does expert trainings for staff members at residential and outpatient facilities that specialize in alcohol and substance abuse.
Dr. Needle is a business coach and consultant and helps therapists build and thrive in private practice both in person and online! She is the co-owner of My Private Practice Collective which has a facebook group and offers consulting and courses on how to start, grow, and thrive in private and group practice. The consulting and courses help therapists successfully start and build either an in person, online, or combination therapy practice or start and grow a group practice!
