BROWARD MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELORS ASSOCIATION
Clinical Professionals Making Lives Better
Divorce and family restructuring can be some of the most emotionally charged experiences individuals and families face. The collaborative law process offers a non-adversarial, team-based alternative to traditional litigation—one that aligns closely with the values and skills of mental health professionals.
This presentation will introduce clinicians to the core principles and structure of the collaborative law process, including the roles of collaborative attorneys, financial neutrals, and mental health professionals. Attendees will gain a practical understanding of how collaboration prioritizes respect, transparency, emotional regulation, and interest-based problem solving, while keeping families out of court.
Special attention will be given to the unique role mental health professionals play in this model—supporting emotional containment, improving communication, protecting children’s well-being, and helping clients remain effective participants during high-stress decision-making. Through real-world examples, participants will learn how structure and role clarity help manage conflict, reduce reactivity, and lead to more durable, client-centered outcomes.
This presentation is ideal for clinicians who work with individuals, couples, and families navigating separation or divorce and want to better understand how collaborative law can complement therapeutic work and improve long-term family functioning.
